Pokemon Season 04: Johto League Champions

From the sprawling metropolis of Goldenrod City to the icy peak of Snowtop Mountain, the Johto region presents Ash, Misty, and Brock with exciting new adventures—along with a few familiar faces like their old friends Todd, Duplica, and Suzie! Johto’s rich past means plenty of Pokémon mysteries for our heroes to solve, and its exciting present means some tough challenges—Ash tackles three more Gyms, while handling competitions like the Pokémon Sumo Conference along the way.

Pokemon Season 04: Johto League Champions picks up where Pokemon: The Johto Journeys (1999-2000) leaves off, with Ash, Brock and Misty.
Due to this season taking longer then I thought it would to watch (it’s been 8 months since I reviewed Pokemon: The Johto Journeys), I am going to be reviewing it in 2 parts, this one covering episodes 1-30 and a post in the future that will cover the rest of the season.

As a whole, I think the 30 Episodes I have watched so far were nothing special. There was a lot of walking from city to city, to the point where it was just getting monotonous. I am hoping that the rest of the season will pick up.
Ash continues to get lucky as a Pokemon master,Which s good as he continues to get by on luck and friends instead of training and actual working to be the best.
From a technical standpoint, Pokemon Season 04: Johto League Champions continues to maintain the good artwork that we have seen so far in the series.

Favorite Episodes

  • Fossil Fools
  • Carrying On
  • Wobbu-Palooza – it’s about time that Wobbuffet gets some love. I thought this episode was funny, especaly Team rocket acting like they actually were going to do the right thing for once.
  • Imitation Confrontation – One of Ash’s friends from a earlier season, Duplica, makes a return with her new Ditto, Mini-dit who cannot change size when taking on the form of other Pokemon.

Least Favorite Episodes

  • Two Hits and a Miss
  • Hook, Line, and Stinker – Just felt like a pointless filler episode.

I’m looking forward to the other half of this season.
