The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl 007 Jul. 2015 Review
SPOILERS AHEAD! YE BE WARNED!
I love the status feed that opens every Squirrel Girl comic. It summarizes what has been happening so far. So funny! I love it. Although, the more I read this one, the more I think it was made for little kids. When we last left Squirrel Girl, she discovered two more Super Hero friends! Koi Boi and Chipmunk Hunk! Tony Stark informs us of fights breaking out all over the city. Who can stop them? Squirrel Girl…
We open with Squirrel Girl and Chipmunk Hunk (great names!) sneaking into their Introduction to Databases class. (Pro tip: Read the fine print at the bottom of the pages. She breaks the 4th wall like Deadpool, but PG rated commentary.) She gets put on the spot by her professor and has to answer a question, because she was talking during the lecture. Luckily, she read ahead and sort of knew the answer. For no reason, a fight breaks out in her class. They eventually stop the Database Model Riot (teehee!) and, later, when reading Wikipedia, they discover Girl Squirrel is really Ratatoskr, a god-squirrel who runs up and down Yggdrasil. She has been terrorizing the city. Their plan to find her involves walking into Avengers tower and asking the only Asgardian they know, Thor.
Squirrel Girl, Chipmunk Hunk, Koi Boi, and Nancy visit Avengers Tower to find Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Captain America, Steve Rogers, and Black Widow arguing. SG introduced her friends to the Avengers and warned them, “If you cannot say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” Guess who spoke up? Yep. Spider-Man. SG beat them all down. She stole Captain America’s cell and called Thor. She got Thor, but he was a bit busy. A fight had broken out in the diner he was at over whether waffles were better than pancakes. SG mentioned Ratatoskr’s name and Thor explained who Ratatoskr is and why she should be feared. He also informed SG that he is no longer the official Thor and if they want to talk to the one who is, they need to meet him at some local diner.
Field trip! They head to the diner to meet this new female Thor. They meet her and decide to stop Ratatoskr, they need to have Thor, Odinson, Nancy, and Tippy-Toe to go to Asgard to break Ratatoskr’s bonds there. SG, Koi Boi, and Chipmunk Hunk are going to stay behind on Earth and keep everyone from tearing the world apart. SG and Co. meet Ratatoskr and battle ensues… then it fades to black. TO BE CONTINUED… (In one month)
I think this will be the last Squirrel Girl I review. I like the characters and the story, but the more I read it the more I think it is for children and is not geared towards adults. It is funny and silly, but I want to review something a little more adult oriented. Thanks for the giggles Unbreakable Squirrel Girl and I will enjoy reading you for my own personal enjoyment.
