The Dragon’s Mario Kart 64 Review
Welcome to The Dragon’s Official YouTube Channel!
Today we are playing a Nintendo 64 console game, Mario Kart 64, with Jedite. He is playing as Wario and I am, of course, Princess Peach. I haven’t played this game since I was in elementary school. I was a bit out of practice, but thought I would give it a try when Jedite suggested we play. Click here to check out Jedite’s Mario Kart 64 review.
Let’s begin with…
Part 1: Mushroom Cup
The Mushroom Cup is the easier of the four. The Mushroom Cup has four races; Luigi Raceway, Moo Moo Farm, Koopa Troopa Beach, and Kalimari Desert.
- Luigi Raceway is a great start to familiarize yourself with the game. I placed first and Jedite placed 2nd. Our overall positions: 1st – The Dragon, 2nd – Jedite.
- Moo Moo Farm is next which is another pretty easy race. This time they added gofers to the course that you can crash into. 1st Place – The Dragon, 2nd Place – Jedite. Overall positions: 1st – The Dragon, 2nd – Jedite.
- Koopa Troopa Beach is my least favorite of the four. I HATE this race. I always end up crashing or in the water. I was surprised I did as well as I did. There is a short cut you can take. There is a single-wide ramp with a palm tree that will speed you ahead, bypassing my least favorite part of the race. I have yet to hit it. 1st Place – The Dragon, 7th Place – Jedite. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon, 2nd – Jedite.
- Kalimari Desert is another easy race, though easy to get stuck on the train tracks or get hit by the train. I usually end up off the track and have to drive back. Surprisingly, it is my favorite of the Cup. 1st Place – The Dragon, 2nd Place – Jedite. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon, 2nd – Jedite.
Part 2: Flower Cup
The Flower Cup has four races; Toad’s Turnpike, Frappe Snowland, Choco Mountain, and Mario Raceway.
- Toad’s Turnpike – My favorite race of the lot. I love racing on the roadway with other cars. I try to avoid the special boxes during this race and focus on not hitting the other cars. 1st Place – The Dragon, 2nd Place – Jedite. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon, 2nd – Jedite.
- Frappe Snowland – Some new hazards are added to the track in the form of snowmen and a bridge. 1st Place – The Dragon, 2nd Place – Jedite. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon, 2nd – Jedite.
- Choco Mountain – I hate this track. Hate it with a fiery passion you only find in cheesy romance novels. You have narrow turns, bridges, and falling rocks. 2nd Place – Jedite, 4th Place – The Dragon. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon, 2nd – Jedite.
- Mario Raceway – I don’t mind Mario Raceway. Lots of turns with this track. Not many other hazards. 1st Place – Jedite, 4th Place – The Dragon. Overall positions 1st – Jedite, 2nd – The Dragon.
Part 3: Star Cup
The Star Cup has four races; Wario Stadium, Sherbet Land, Royal Raceway, and Bowser’s Castle.
- Wario Stadium is one of my favorites. It’s easy and it introduces a few hazards. The bumps and ramp are my favorites. You get airborne! So much fun. 1st Place – The Dragon, 2nd Place – Jedite. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon, 2nd – Jedite.
- Sherbet Land. I hate Sherbet Land. You have the added hazards of penguins, ice, and water you can fall into. Fall into them I did. 1st Place – Jedite, 2nd Place – The Dragon. Overall positions 1st – Jedite, 2nd – The Dragon. (We have the exact same amount of points here)
- Royal Raceway raises the difficulty of the tracks. The turns are sharper, the track is angled, and it adds speed platforms and more ramps. I fell off the track often. 1st Place – Jedite, 8th Place – The Dragon. Overall positions 1st – Jedite, 2nd – The Dragon.
- Bowser’s Castle add the hazards of lava, fire breathing dragon statues, blocks to squish you, bridges to fall off, stairs to go down, and boxes to push you off the track. Another race where I fell off the track… a lot. Not one of my favorites. 4th Place – The Dragon, 6th Place – Jedite. Overall positions 1st – Jedite, 3rd – The Dragon.
Part 4: Special Cup
The Special Cup has four races; D. K.’s Jungle Parkway, Yoshi Valley, Banshee Boardwalk, and Rainbow Road.
- D. K.’s Jungle Parkway is another of my least favorites. It adds the hazards of sharp turns, rock things that beat you if you go off the track, cliffs, fences, bridges, speed ramps and dirt mounds to climb. I’m always happy when this one is over. We had to redo it. If you don’t make one of the top 3 positions, you have to repeat the track. 1st Place – The Dragon, 4th Place – Jedite. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon, 4th – Jedite.
- Yoshi Valley. Cliffs. Stupid cliffs. They also have a giant egg to squish you as a new hazard, bridges, and a babomb guy. Another track I hated. Another we had to repeat. 3rd Place – Jedite, 8th Place – The Dragon. Overall positions 3rd – The Dragon, 4th – Jedite.
- Banshee Boardwalk is a track full of more bridges to fall off, ghosts, sharp turns, bats, rocks to smash you, and a giant fish. 1st Place – The Dragon, 6th Place – Jedite. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon (tied with Yoshi), 4th – Jedite (3rd if you count the tie as 2 people in 1st instead of 1st and 2nd).
- Rainbow Road is a favorite of mine. It is colorful and easy. You have the wandering babomb to look out for, but not much else. You can’t fall off this track. 1st Place – Jedite, 2nd Place – The Dragon. Overall positions 1st – The Dragon, 4th – Jedite.
