Guardians of the Galaxy 003 (Dec. 2015)

SPOILERS AHEAD! YE BE WARNED!

To catch you up…

“The entire galaxy is a mess. Warring empires and cosmic terrorists plague every corner. Someone has to rise above it all and fight for those who have no one to fight for them. A group of misfits — Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Flash Thompson, a.k.a. Venom — joined together under the leadership of Peter Quill, Star-Lord. With new members Kitty Pryde and Ben Grimm, a.k.a. The Thing, they serve a higher cause as the Guardians of the Galaxy.

“Hala, named for the Kree Empire’s home planet, is the last surviving Accuser. Thus, she must bring justice to the perpetrators of the last crime against the Kree: the immolation of Hala’s home and namesake, for which she hold the Guardians responsible. She’s pledged to punish them by razing both of Peter Quill’s homeworlds: Spartax and Earth. She handily beat the Guardians and stranded Peter in orbit around Spartax, helpless to stop his planet’s destruction.

“In the Negative Zone, Annihilus and the Brood Queen realized that with the Kree Supreme Intelligence and J’Son of Spartax gone, there was no one left on the Galactic Council to rein in their devious ambitions.” – Guardians of the Galaxy 003 (Dec. 2015)

003

We see an old friend Yotat the Destroyer in the Marketplace in Knowhere. Yotat was trying to shake down an arms dealer for information on the location of Drax. He gets intel that Spartax is under attack and believes that is where Drax will be. Before he heads out to watch Hala destroy Spartax, he gets a visit from a Brood and an invitation to visit the Brood Queen.

The Guardians have their hands full with Hala attacking the planet and Peter Quill missing. Peter is trapped in a pod above the planet, unable to do anything or help anyone. The Guardians are getting crushed by Hala and the Spartax army is doing their best, but it is not good enough. Gamora rallies and attacks Hala by herself, but Hala gets the better of her and Gamora falls. The Guardians are able to escape, possibly with Peter. The pod he was in is shown broken apart. TO BE CONTINUED…

Hala seems to know where the Guardians are headed, possibly Earth I am thinking, and is going to pursue the Guardians. This issue had a lot of action and very little dialog. The artwork is delightful. The massive battle scenes are a beauty to behold. I love it. The story is great as well, but the art in this issue is lovely. I can’t wait to see the next issue. Until next time!
