“Dum Dum Dugan — recently revealed to be an advanced LMD (Life-Model Decoy) — has been charged with leading The Howling Commandos, a faction of S.H.I.E.L.D. which was created to handle the… stranger aspects of homeland protection.
“After a recent recovery mission went wrong, Commander Dugan has his work cut out for him. But when a young girl releases all hell on a New York City subway train, will his team of monstrous miscreants fail again?” – Howling Commandos of SHIELD 002 (Nov. 2015)

Amphibian, Nina, and Dugan are searching the tunnels under the New York subway system for the missing train. On the way they find a girl named Nadeen who can summon spirits, the train full of passengers covered in hieroglyphics, and one big trap. They are able to fight off the evil spirits while Nina got inside Nadeen’s head and helped her take control of the spirits she summoned. They bring her back to S.T.A.K.E. headquarters to help her.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kraye is plotting the downfall of the Howling Commandos and we discover he is being haunted by a mimic-child-thing. He also is holding Dracula, sedated, in his lab and is experimenting on him. (That cannot turn out well for anyone involved) Before the comic ends we see a tall building and a late-night board meeting. The Sphinx (a new bad guy) obliterates the board members and says something about artifacts and the fall of humanity… TO BE CONTINUED…
I feel like a kid again when I read The Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D. They have an old school feel to them, probably the presence of Dum Dum Dugan bringing back childhood memories of reading Captain America. The Sphinx looks like a cheesy, 90’s bad guy. He even has a minion. Until next time!
