Guardians of Knowhere 001 Jul. 2015 Review

SPOILERS AHEAD! YE BE WARNED!

Welcome to another Secret Wars comic. This comic is what remains of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of Knowhere 001. In case you were unaware…

The Multiverse was destroyed! The heroes of Earth-616 and Earth-1610 were powerless to save it! Now, all that remains… is BATTLEWORLD! A massive, patchwork planet composed of the fragments of worlds that no longer exist, maintained by the iron will of its God and Master, Victor Von Doom! Each region is a domain unto itself! – Every Secret Wars comic opening

We open on a familiar scene, Knowhere, the giant, floating, alien head of the Celestial. The Celestial came to take the world for himself, but he was stopped by Doom (or so the story goes). No one believes in the alien story (aliens, come on!) and no one believes people actually live in the head. Inside the head we see Angela of Asgard, a member of the Thors Corps (Doom’s police force in Battleworld) landing in Knowhere in front of a familiar face, Drax the Destroyer. Angela is looking for Gamora. Drax has been drinking, a lot, and refuses to tell Angela where Gamora is, so they battle it out. Gamora shows up to stop the battle. Angela says she has orders to take Gamora “Dead or Alive” to Doom for leaving her territory. Gamora refuses. Gamora hints she is different and before we can learn what she is Rocket blasts Angela. Thanks to Rocket, they are able to escape Angela (who is laying unconscious).

Rocket takes them to a secret place where we find Mantis. Drax finds the secret place, which looks like a mini paradise, familiar and can’t figure out why. Rocket interrogates Gamora on where she ran off to. The one rule they follow in Knowhere is you never leave. Now a Thorsguard is hunting them. Gamora refuses to say where she went, only that she thinks Doom is just a made up story to keep everyone compliant and stuck in Knowhere. She explains her reasoning with, “I see things differently than you” (she has cosmic powers) and “Thanos” (whom no one seems to know who he is). Before we can learn more, they are interrupted (again) by Yotat who is hunting Drax and laying claim to Knowhere. TO BE CONTINUED…

At first, I was not going to review this comic. I thought it did not have enough women dominating the comic. After some thought I decided to include this comic since Gamora is the head of the Guardians of Knowhere and the Thor in this one is also female. So, hey, it counts. Plus, I can’t resist the Guardians. I want to know more about Gamora and how she got her powers and what her plans are and why they involve Thanos. I love a good comic that leaves you with tons of questions.
