Matt Murdock begins his vigilante career and opens a law firm with his friend, Foggy Nelson. Their first client is Karen Page, a secretary for construction company Union Allied who has been framed for the murder of her co-worker Daniel Fisher after accidentally uncovering a massive pension embezzlement scheme. Matt prevents Karen from being prosecuted and protects her from an assassin hired to retrieve her copy of the file, which is exposed through a local newspaper. James Wesley covers up the involvement of his employer in the scandal, while the Russian mafia arranges a young boy’s kidnapping to lure Matt into a trap. Karen volunteers to work for Matt and Foggy in gratitude for their help. – Wikipedia Daredevil (TV Series)

Let me begin by saying I was not a huge Daredevil fan before this point. I read some of the comics if one of the Marvel characters I liked crossed over into his comic or he into theirs. After seeing this bold pilot for Netflix’s take on Marvel’s Daredevil I am seriously thinking about reading his comics on a regular basis. If they are half as gritty, dark, and action-packed as this first episode was, then I have been missing out. The intro story was rather brief and felt incredibly abrupt, but after watching a little more and seeing their habit of flashing back to the past the brevity in the beginning made sense.

Charlie Cox plays Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, and brings a little rakish charm to what I thought was a rather brooding character. His version of Daredevil is witty and intelligent, but still has a room to mock himself. His unyielding determination keeps picking him up after each KO. I’m not sure if he is 100% THE GUY to play Daredevil, but he isn’t bad so far. I was so excited to see Deborah Ann Woll in something other than True Blood. Her character Karen seems to be full of good intentions, but has gotten in with a bad crowd. She holds her own when she can, but I think she is going to be the pretty face around the office. Shame. They could have made her amazing. I guess it is too soon to tell if they will keep her as the pretty damsel in distress constantly in need of saving or if she will stand on her own and bring Union Allied down. I hope she crushes them. We didn’t catch a glimpse of Kingpin yet, only snippets of Vincent D’Onofrio’s voice. Ugh! The suspense is killing me!! This is why I binge-watch Netflix…

The show looks good, so far, though it is hard to tell from the first episode (though, really, WOW!). Most TV shows take a few episodes to really get rolling. This one looks to be off with a BANG! Until next time!
