Pokemon Season 02: Adventures on the Orange Islands

Recently I sat down with the kid and we watched the second of Pokemon: Adventures on the Orange Islands.
This season picks up where the first leaves off, with Ash, Brock and Misty returning to Pallet Town after the Indigo League. Ash and company are asked my professor Oak to travel to the Orange Islands to pick up the ‘GS Ball’. While in the Orange Islands, Brock decides to leave the group to pursue his own studies, while Ash and Misty are joined by Tracey as Ash decides to participate in the Orange League.

In most ways Adventures on the Orange Islands is far better then Indigo League (season 1).
The story line was well planned out, with a complex, emotional story.
Unlike the first season, Indigo League, There was a lot of character development, especially for Jessie, James and Meowth of Team Rocket.

My favorite Orange Island episodes include:

  • Fit to Be Tide
  • In the Pink
  • The Joy of Pokémon
  • Snack Attack
  • Meowth Rules – Even though Ash, Misty and Tracy only appear for a minute or so, this is one of the better episodes of the season.
  • Charizard Chills – While Charazard ignoring Ash was funny for a while, it did get a bit old after a while. It is nice to see Charizard finally deciding to obey.

Unlike the first season there are not any petucular episodes that I dislike. My least favorite Orange Island episodes include:

  • Pallet Party Panic
  • A Scare in the Air
  • In the Pink
  • A Way Off Day Off
  • The Stun Spore Detour – While I generally don’t feel that this episode contributes to the overall storyline and was a bit boring, I did like that Misty took pity and helped James and Meouth out.
